Fred M. Caruso, the multi-talented producer, director and screenwriter, who brought audiences the highly acclaimed, THE BIG GAY MUSICAL, last season, and just finished producing , YOU CAN’T HAVE IT ALL, starring Jon Lindstrom (As The World Turns) and Wendie Malick (Hot In Cleveland, Just Shoot Me), shot entirely in Philadelphia this spring, is now putting his efforts and energies into GO-GO CRAZY, a “mockumentary.”
The mockumentary is about a GO-GO Boy contest and centers upon the five hot dancer contestants and just how far they are willing to go to win the top prize of a cool $1,000 in cash.
“I personally love strippers and mockumentaries so I thought that it would be a lot of fun to turn that love into a fun movie,” Caruso explained.
On the mixing of scripted and improvisational elements in the film, Caruso said that the written script has been designed primarily as a “general outline for the film” but most of the scenes will be improvised by the actors who will be cast as such characters as the dancers, the drag queen as mistress of ceremonies and several over-the-top judges intermingled with the feisty real live audience (that’s where the Reality TV element comes into the filming of the mockumentary) and even the full-of-attitude bartenders and sassy bar backs.
“There’ll be a lot of camp, a little sex, an entertaining dose of sabotage, and, certainly, some real ‘dirty’ tricks to keep things interesting and lively,” promised Caruso, “and you will be getting a movie that will turn you on, bend you over with laughter, and then, yes, give you a happy ending.”
During the shooting, the public is invited to “cast themselves” as members of the audience while watching the dancers in competition. Screenwriter Thom Cardwell (YOU CAN’T HAVE IT ALL) will serve as an associate producer of GO-GO CRAZY.
Prior to the actual shooting of GO-GO CRAZY, Caruso and Cardwell will host an “amateur go go boy contest” before a live audience at 9 p. m., at Woody’s, Saturday, October 9. Contestants are invited to participate for free and should bring a portfolio and resume with them if possible.
“The winner of the contest will be given a role in the mockumentary,” boasted Caruso.
Other prizes to contestants will include prizes and gifts including DVD titles from Breaking Glass Pictures’ catalog including DVDs to THE BIG GAY MUSICAL, who also distributes the smash hit .
To maintain an authenticity and sense of realism without changing the names and the club’s exterior or interior, Caruso said that the mockumentary will be shot “on location” in a nightclub in Center City Philadelphia, located is what affectionately known as the city’s “Gayborhood,” on Friday, November 5.
