INCENDIES

Incendies

2010

Sub-titled

“Incendies” can not be easily categorized. Is this Canadian film (nominated for an Academy Award in the Foreign Film category in 2010) a (a) war movie? (b) mystery? (c) family drama? (d) thriller? (e) all of the aforementioned categories? The correct answer is (e) and much more.

Two fraternal twins are each given a challenge revealed in the reading of their mother’s last will and testament. The deceased trusted notary instructs the young adults as to their mother, Nawal’s wishes. Jeanne accepts the challenge that includes traveling to her mother’s homeland in the Middle East to seek the truth. Simon refuses to become involved until Jeanne beckons him to join her on her dangerous journey.

Originally a play, “Incendies” tells two parallel…

Kicking Back at the Le Meridien Khao Lak Beach & Spa Resort

SnowbizNow by Nicholas Snow

(This is an encore presentation a previously published story. Some of the characters may have changed, but the place is still fabulous!)

I’m a Taurus and I love to be pampered, so where did I go on my vacation? I kicked back at the Le Meridien Khao Lak Beach & Spa Resort.

On Location at Kuala Lumpur's Vistana Hotel

SnowbizNow by Nicholas Snow

As a travel and entertainment journalist, I am spoiled. I have stayed at some of the world’s finest hotels, from beach front pool villas in tropical resorts to urban properties in the hearts of cities including Montreal, New York, Dallas, Honolulu, Bangkok, Phuket and on this occasion, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Often, I’m a hosted guest of the hotel, or because I’ve been invited in my capacity as an actor, singer and songwriter, someone else is paying. And on that rare occasion, I’m paying for the stay myself.

"Young Adult" is a Yawn

Isn’t even a black comedy supposed to be funny? “Young Adult” is promoted as such and has strong comedy credentials behind it. Director Jason Reitman once again teamed with writer Diablo Cody (they worked together on “Juno”). Another plus being the movie stars the stunning Charlize Theron playing a depressed thirty-something, Mavis Gray.

The film is being touted to the hilt as a comedy, but after viewing the movie in a reasonably full theatre filled with high expectations, reality hit. There was little laughter and much stirring (presumably from boredom). The best thing about the 94 minute feature was that it wasn’t any longer. One would hate to waste two hours of one’s life on such presumptuous dribble.

Mavis is depressed and feels the solution to life’s…

“Old Dogs & New Tricks” unleashed! The hot new web series returns with four sexy new off-the-hook episodes!

Returning January 8th with fresh episodes, Old Dogs & New Tricks continues the story of four successful, middle-aged gay best friends, all struggling to stay vital and relevant in youth-obsessed West Hollywood.

With its several intertwining plotlines, Old Dogs & New Tricks is more adult and complex than most web series; think Entourage set in gay WeHo, which is why the Pilot scored a 95% ‘like’ rating from viewers and also received more than 5,000 YouTube views in less than two months of its debut.

Creator and star Leon Acord is excited about building on the heat generated by the pilot -- in more ways than one.  He promises that "while the show is about the relationships between the main characters, we won’t shy away from sexual dialogue and content inherent in a show about…
